In J Berry's book Home Brewed beer and Stouts he recommends the removal of the scum which forms at the top in the FV during the earlier part of the fermentation, because he states, if left the beer can become 'yeast bitten'.

Anyone else have any thought on this?

It does in fact mess up the underside of the lid and can leach out of the FV. :hmm:

home brewer's yeasts are much better now. his book was written when stuff like this was rampant.

just relax, leave it, and rack off it later on.

I'm not sure about yeast bitten, but try tasting some of it

Thanks for that prompt reply Rob. I've got a three inch cow pat on my FV tonight but I'll leave it well alone. :thumb:
