Screw Top Whisky Bottles

Hello everybody, Sorry if this is in the wrong place! I am a bit short of bottles and was wondering if anyone had used whisky bottles for lager? I have ten that I was thinking of using when my lager is ready, but don't want to waste it obviously.
I understand they are less than ideal but as this is not a permanent arrangement surely it would be OK at least once?
Would I have to sterilize them? Maybe I should just buy some beer, drink it and use the bottles and recycle the whisky bottles. Just thought I'd ask. Cheers

They are not designed to withstand the pressure. They will go bang.

I wouldn't use Whisky bottles, they are not designed to take pressure as they are made of lighter glass for a still product. You can use any bottles which have previously had fizzy drinks in them. PET bottles (plastic coke bottles for instance) are fine for this and can usually be found on the side of the road - don't be alarmed at this - you need to sanitize them before use so any content they may have had will be cleaned out and they will then be wholesome for your use.

I would be old chap, wouldn't he be better popping off to the local supermarket and buying some cheap own brand pop for the bottles, bottles at the side of the road could be full of 'Yellow lemonade!!' and no amount of sanitizing would convince me! :hat:

P.S I'm another for the DON'T use screw top whisky bottles

Asda/Tesco sparkling water bottles = 17p 2 litres.

Just pop down to your local pub. After a weekend they will have plenty of free bottles. you will need to get a capper and some caps, but at least they won't explode like whisky bottles. For wine yes. Beer NO.

If you can't tell the difference "Old Chap" then you shouldn't go out looking for PET Bottles. But as I'm on a limited budget and am willing to put the effort into cleaning the bottles before use I see nothing wrong with this practice.
