you just want some that are 1g not the 0.1g (they are for drug dealers) :) and cost to much anyway. there are millions of different brands and modals, the only advice is as bigger surface area as possible on the scales to hold the size bowl you want

I use a set of Salter scales which go up in 2g at a time but the scales them selves will take 10kg. It might be nice to have 1g divisions but have jewellery scales for thing that need small amounts of with great precision such as water treatment additions.

As such I always plan my hop additions in even numbers.

Hello,

Can anybody recommend a specific brand/model of scales for (a) general purpose and (b) precision? I've seen brand recommendations for both when I search but the threads are often old and without recommendations for a particular model.

I would like the general purpose scales to be *at least* 5kgx1g. Not sure what's needed for precision - d=0.1g or 0.01g?

Going round in circles trying to make a decision!

I use some salter scales from sainsburys I think or maybe Argos. 5kg going up in 1g and think I paid about £12.

Do you want it for weighing grain or hops or very light things?

Interested in recommendations for each of those purposes, though aware the recommendation will be different for each case! :)

Don't bother weighing out base malts. Get a pint jug with a handle and measure out 1pt. Say this weighs 1kg...just use this as a a scoop. Specialist grains...exactly the same but use a hlfpint glass.....when you need...eg 20g of chocolate use a smaller measuring. Tescos do a assorted measuring spoon thingy, this is ideal once you know the volume to weight ratio.....If not any Slater Digital scales are very accurate.

And if your that anally retentive.....weigh a £1.00 coin
Right Im off to weigh a £1.00 coin

A £1.00 coin weighs 10g

My car keys weigh 72g

£1 coin is 9.5g,according to the wiki page I saw, so most scales will say 9 or 10. Put a couple on and it should be 19g. I did this with the Morrisons ones when I got them, then put a bag of sugar on and did the same again. Anally retentive as charged!
