Hi Folks
Just joined and thought I'd pop in for a quick first post. I've returned to home wine making after an absence of many years and kicked off with a Ballihoo/Beaverdale 30 bottle Merlot kit. So far, no problems. I plan to get an Oak Barrel for ageing once racked and filtered. Not sure how long I'll leave it in the barrel, but it will be a challenge just looking at it coming up to Christmas :-)
I haven't had a chance yet to go through the forum in detail so forgive me if this has already been posted. I found a lot of useful information on The American EC Kraus web site. They are a web outlet but shipping from USA isn't an option for the UK. However the advice seems good. For example https://eckraus.com/wine-making-failure/ and https://eckraus.com/wine-making-101/. One of the bits of advice that was contrary to my early days of wine making was NOT to use an airlock during the primary fermentation phase. https://eckraus.com/airlock-basics/ but I guess I'm just showing my age and things change :-)
