guys, had a question.

During my first brew I sanitized everything with sodium metabisulfite.

I then rinsed it all with normal tap water- does this defeat the purpose of sanitizing it? should i rinse it with some pre-treated campden water?

thanks

From my experience, rinsing with tap water doesn't really cause any harm, but I'm sure others may disagree. "Best practise" would suggest that you shouldn't rinse.

Ideally, you shouldn't be using Sod Met or Campden to sanitise though. A lot of us are now using a product called Videne, which you can get from the local chemist (they will probably have to order it in). At the right dilution (1.2ml per litre of water) is a "no rinse" solution. Makes sanitising really simple and will probably cost less in the long run that using Sod Met.
