tried doing a san migeul clone from Brewings Beers Like Those you Buy.

20lt
1 x lager kit
1000g goldern syrup
15g Hallertaau tops
saf larger yeast

For the larger kit i used a Coopers European Larger kit.

I simmered the hops for about 10mins, added them to the fermenter along with the kit. I messed up and mixed it to 24lt!!! so added 500g of lightly hopped spraymalt (thats what i had to hand)

Fermented in the primary for a week then, secondary for 2 weeks, then racked into a cornelius keg. It recommends maturing the larger for three months before sampling. I have left it 2 and a bit, and wow i'm very impressed, incredibly clear, goldern larger, very much like Sol or San Migeul.

I read a quote somewhere "why would you brew a beer that you can buy tones of?", looking forward to experimenting with all grain, but i cant argur this makes a lovly beer that i reckon will improve with age

Nice one Aeddon. I remember pencilling that one in for experimentation but forgot all about it. Glad to hear it came off well for you. Enjoy!

Using a kit for a base then adding on is a good easy way of making a drinkable lager in particular. I've done similar with Coopers kits and the photo in my avatar is a glass of Coopers Lager plus a kilo of dextrose plus a one kilo 'minimash' of pilsener grain malt then boiled with some Saaz.

I see you used a whack of golden syrup. I recently did a Mexican / American attempt and although it's basically all grain I put in a couple of 500 gram tubs of rice malt syrup. It should be available from Chinese grocers in your nearest larger 'Chinatown' and is an excellent replacement for Lyles in lagers:

It's also cheap, I paid the equivalent of about 95 pence each  Apparently it's not all fermentable so adds a bit of body as well.

I honestly cant believe it tastes soooo good, and it came out completely clear too. It last a total of 6 hrs which is longer than i anticipated. took the keg to a party on friday, real talking point. got some people interested in havin a go at brewing. most people seemed to have done a brew at some point but were disappointed at the result, most complained of a weak taste, tcp pang and cloudy beer, most complaints seems to be from lack of patience and drinking too young. A few words of advice and i hope some will give it a another go.

I seriously recommend giving it a go. I'm gona make another for sure

I have tried this brew, it works well, but San Miguel it isnt. next time i will only put 500g of golden syrup in, but it is still a very nice drink

Well, this will gove me something to do at the weekend, I have a lot of San Miguel bottles that need filling up
