I rarely buy supermarket beers nowadays unless there's something I would particularly like to try, or it comes in a decent, re-usable bottle and is on offer. I also hardly ever drink l*g*r unless on holiday somewhere warm, and would certainly never touch the UK's top brands.

A couple of weeks ago I picked up a bottle of Kingfisher, £1 from Morrison's, India's top selling l*g*r. It was pleasant enough and allowed me to recycle a Hobgoblin bottle (which can be a PITA to re-use unless you've got a bench capper, which I haven't, yet). On closer inspection of the label I saw “brewed in the UK under licence by Shepherd Neame”.

Yesterday I picked up a bottle of Asahi l*g*r, £1 from Morrison's, Japan's No.1 premium beer. The bottle looked familiar, taller than a Magner's and slightly more slender. In fact it looked identical to the Kingfisher bottle. It was pleasant enough and allowed me to recycle another Hobgoblin bottle. Closer inspection of the label required a magnifying glass, but guess what, brewed in the UK by Shepherd Neame.

Is it all just coincidence? :wha:

I have been selling specialist bottled beers from around the world for nearly 27 years now..........this has been going on for years.
I made a point of never stocking these 'foreign' beers brewed in the UK......always struck me as a bit of a con.
Couple more to add to your list Moley........
San Miguel.........UK brewed
Cobra................Uk brewed
Probably lots more........

Tiger - Brewed by S&N (or Heineken as they are now).

I had a bottle of the imported stuff on Friday night, followed by the UK brewed stuff. The difference was remarkable. The imported stuff had more taste and a lower level of carbonation.

How did the lager bottle allow you to recycle the Hobgoblin bottle :hmm: ?

I must be missing something here.....

Johnc86.........I've been thinking about this myself for a day or two......then there was light !!!!!
Moley keeps the Kingfisher Lager bottle and chucks the Hobgoblin bottle in the recycle bin.........simple !!!!!!!!!!

Sorry, I should probably have explained that a bit better, but you've got the idea. I think I've now got quite enough bottles in total but I'm trying to phase out the ones which aren't so easy to re-use, or the wrong shape for stacking on my ready-to-go bottle pyramid.

That sounds interesting Moley!
Do you have to make a point of unstacking so as you use the bottom ones or is there a fiendish method here?
Of course I may have hold of the wrong end altogether (typical me).

No, I tend to wait until there are about 30 bottles in my stack and then get another brew started
