As I mentioned in my intro post im planning on transferring my ipa kit into a pin....question is whats the best way to clean the pin properly?? :?: :wha:

And....is there any way i need to transfer the brew as not to cause damage or will syphoning do? does it need filtering?

Thanks in advance!

Easiest - Spray ball on the end of a pressure washer :D Then use antiformin rinse and peracetic . . . but as you probably don't have access to brewery chemicals, I would go with using a strong solution of a percarbonate cleaning solution (Whizz or Astonish - Which has no fragrances) and leave for 15 minutes . . . then drain, rinse a couple of times, then a litre of videne, shaken around to wet the insides . . . drain . . job done.

Fill the cask in the same way as you would a pressure barrel. Make sure you have a keystone in place in the tap hole, add primings to the pin, syphon the beer into the pin ensuring that the syphon tube reaches the bottom of the pin. When full add a hop plug, and hammer the keystone home . . . roll to disperse the finings and the hops .. .put away somewhere cool to condition. . . . a few of days before using you need to vent the cask with a hard peg, and bang it through the tut in the shive . . watch out for the fountain . . replace it with a soft peg to allow the excess condition to vent

It depends on what the pins made of, JB should be able to help you the best or AM.

Syphoning will be fine, or drop out using a length of sterilised silcone tube connected to a drum tap if you have a ta[p on your FV.

just make sure you don't get the wort oxidised.

You don't want to filter as you want some yeast left in for secondary & conditioning.

Give it a quick swill around with clean water. Replace the keystone with a new one. Get some antiformin from the HBS and make up to the recommended strength and fill the pin with it. Leave it overnight and then rinse thoroughly.

There are other ways, but this is one of the easiest without a cask washer ;)

Aleman's suggestion will also work ok.

Or you could pop down your local micro and see if they'll do it for you on their washer. Don't hold your breath if they're not using it at the time though, they take a while to warm up.
