I've just started to kick off another of Brupak's 'Brewers choice' kits and like an eejit didn't check my ingredients before starting. Will I never learn
I knew I had a tin of malt extract in the cupboard, but having started making up the kit I've found out it's a part tin and I haven't got the 1.5kg of malt extract I need to add to it. I know the kit gives the option to use sugar instead but I want to use ME this time around.
I can get more tomorrow, so hopefully nothing horrible will happen if I just leave it partially made up until tomorrow.....or will it?

If i were you i would boil it up in a big pot if you have one, or tip into the fv and add a few kettlefulls of water to get rid of any bacteria you might have picked up.

Should be cool otherwise.

Thanks Rob...by the time I picked up your email I'd pitched in the spray dried malt, most of the water, and chucked in the yeast. I've given it a good stir and snapped the lid on, so hopefully the yeast will at least kick off tonight, but then I'll have to stir in the ME tomorrow. Fingers crossed.
Incidentally, I made the same kit using sugar before Christmas, and it turned out to be very palatable, and I should think that it would be a very nice summer noggin served cool.

Thanks again.....Tim H. :thumb:

Ooh, you've started fermentation up already? Good idea actually. You will definitely be fine to add the extra DME in tomorrow.

Be careful adding the malt extract though - fermentation can get very volatile if you add more sugar, do it very slowly so you don't end up with a kitchen floor covered of beer :p

Ah! Good point! I normally use a heated brewing belt and have had the odd overflow during the early stages of fermentation.
I guess I'll also have to strike a balance between getting the ME warm enough to dissolve but not so hot it kills off too much yeast. I'm looking forward to trying this brew. I've been making my own full grain brews for years, and only did a kit as I was short of time and ingredients, but the Brupaks 'teabag technology' doesn't seem a bad half-way house.

Cheers,

Tim
