Last night I got a variant of this going. I was going to go straight for the recipe that Moley has helpfully posted on here*, however, I could not find any white grape juice when I went shopping, so I used red grape juice instead, so I'm christening my brew as Ruddy Orange Wine.

I used 1l of red grape juice, 1l of smooth orange juice, about 850g of silverspoon sugar, two tea bags, some pectolase, glycerine, yeast and yeast nutrient.

I boiled the sugar in about 1 pint of water to make the sugar syrup, and at the same time made a strong cup of tea. While I was leaving them to cool I figured that they may as well cool together, so poured the tea (with bags) into the sugar solution. (Which I was very tempted to drink as it doesn't seem far off my normal cuppa...)

I then added the juices to my demijohn, followed by the cooled strong tea and other ingredients. I then topped the lot up to the bottom of the curve of the demijohn. I took the hydrometer reading before shaking thoroughly though, so I don't know how accurate the reading of 1.080 is. That's by the by though, as it was bubbling within half hour and is bubbling very merrily today.

I was quite tired when I started this all off, after a 5am start, and didn't take notes really. So not one of my best efforts, and I'm sure mistakes were made, but it seems to be off to a good start. I just need to make sure I'm not so tired for future brewing efforts.

*I'm slightly worried at how many times I mention Moley, honestly, I'm not stalking him. :thumb:

Welcome to the wonderful world of WOW, orange is my least favourite but it got me into the hobby, take a look at the link in my signature below for recipes and comments from forum members.

Cheers, I've had a quick look at that thread, but at 22 pages I'll need a bit of time to sit and read through it all. :D Read it I will though, I still have a lot of demijohns to fill...

I've got a stuffed nose at the moment, so I can't smell anything yet. :D It's lovely looking down at it and watching it burble though, makes me feel like a mad professor.

There must be another shortage of White Grape Juice, I could only find White Grape and Peach at Lidl's

Same here, i have just put on 3 DJ's of red grape juice and apple juice instead of WGJ.

I was somewhat concerned the weekend before last that there was no red and only one carton of white grape juice on Aldi's shelves, which I grabbed even though I had a few in stock, but a bit more worried when last weekend they hadn't re-stocked.

Will check again tomorrow.

My Asda has loads of WGJ, £1 a bottle, tried in an Asda?

Also has RGJ in the cold aisle on some 3 for £x offer.

No, our usual Saturday shopping trip is to Aldi and Morrison's, I haven't tried anywhere else yet.

We do have a branch of Asda but it's a relatively small one with limited stock ranges. Might be worth a try though if Aldi's shelves are still bare.

Well, I went downstairs this morning, and the airlock was brown with the froth from the top of the ROW. It hadn't completely exploded, and there was nothing outside of the airlock and demijohn, but it seems it did become quite vigorous in the night. So I got my darling wife to sterilise another airlock and swapped them over a little while ago. Hopefully the brew should remain unaffected. Fingers crossed.

It'll be fine, the layer of CO2 will have protected it, next time fill it to the bottom of the shoulder especially if you are making anything orange based.

Not only were Aldi's shelves bare, but the price card has been removed from the back board.

Detoured to Asda where I found 8 cartons of white, and obviously bought the lot.

Couldn't find any red, but didn't look very hard.

Asda used to have warm rgj, but now rgj seems to only be in the chilled section. Got a few 100% variants too, rgj with pomegranate, raspberry etc.

I started 3 DJ's of RGJ and Apple juice a week ago as we cannot get WGJ locally, i have been told it turns out well so am looking forward to trying it in a couple of weeks time

Just checked our local Asda for wgj and the shelf was empty, no sign of any rgj either. Well try again next week.

Sorry about that, go back a few posts, your local Asda is also my local Asda.

I didn't look for any red though. Lidl in Stourport usually have plenty of that.

*shakes fist at you for taking them all and to Asda for not replenishing them already*

:D No worries, we were in town anyway and thought we'd pop in to see if they did stock it. Will probably call in next week to pick some up if they have any. Although I plan to get a ginger beer and a hooch started next weekend. All in the aim of building up my supplies. I wonder if they they will ever catch up to yours. :D We were going to open a bottle of wine that you gave us tonight to go with supper. I'll get back to you on how we find it.
