Something i've noticed loads of times but does anyone know what the small signs that are usually attached to lamposts are that are a green background with a capital letter 'R' on them :wha:

It's pronounced "Aaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrr" and it's to show pirates where they can tie up their galleons :lol:

according to the highway code, green signs are for general information purposes.

does that area require parking permits? as it could be something to do with that, where you need to buy a permit relevant to the area (area R for example)?

it doesn't seem to be a normal uk wide sign, so maybe it's something specific to that area/council?
