You can buy an RO filter for under the sink (depending on how much space you have) for under £150. The amount i use would pay for itself in 6 months. Family have been drinking RO water for just under 2 years and i can tell you tap water tastes rank now. You wont need to get it tested but will need to add minerals to the water. Sorry if that sounds vague but i have not sussed that part out yet. I just add gypsum. The RO water will have a PH of 6 so it might be different to your tap water? Mine ups it to PH7 which i don't know is better for beer or not.

Edit, I just realised i was looking at the wrong column. Its incredibly cheap that water and i would definitely give it a go if you can. £10 for 200l of drinkable pure water, that's amazing! :thumb:

Best use for RO water is dilution. If some of your tap water ions exceed recommended levels, you can reduce them using RO water (then bring the rest back to desired level through specific additions). But water treatment is a tough subject. After 3 months research I posted a thread here named "Water for dummies". I took time to write that as, in my 3 months research, I could really have done with it myself; I found no concise beginner orientated texts.
