There are 2 types of politician, sign posts and weather cocks.

• The sign posts point in the direction they believe we should go whether that will be popular or not, Thatcher was one of them as is Tony Benn and a few others.
  Then there are the weather cocks who see which way the wind is blowing before they decide which way to point.

The problem we have at the moment is that parliament is full of cocks.
