@Godsdog - Just read it on BBC News as you say another star from our younger days gone.

Former Blue Peter presenter John Noakes, who hosted the show in 1960s and '70s, has died at the age of 83.
Noakes was the BBC children's show's longest-serving presenter, appearing for more than 12 years, and was often seen with his dog Shep by his side.
A family statement said he had "endured and suffered from" Alzheimer's disease.
"Whilst he will be greatly missed by his wife, family and many friends his release from continuing ill health must be counted as a blessing," it said.
"His many escapades with his faithful companion Shep, during his time with Blue Peter, will live on in many peoples memories. That is how his family would like him remembered."

real shame. always come across as a nice fella.

Mad as a box of frogs when he was on Blue Peter. I remember him climbing up Nelsons Column and a freefall from a plane with minimal training, I doubt they would be allowed to do that now without £1 million insurance.

The "elephant in the room" is still marvelous television!

I should think as his family have stated it was a blessed release from an awful debilitating disease,i felt the same way about my fathers demise after 30 odd years of painful suffering:thumb:

Me too, didn't want him to go but didn't want him to hang on like that either!

I was just talking yesterday as we passed a respite home where we left my dad for one night just after his original diagnosis. I went home and got a call from the home saying he had "escaped" by climbing a 7 foot spiked fence and walked 5 miles across th city. They had helecopters out looking for him and he turned up at home wondering what all the fuss was about, he never went back!

He would have been a couple of years older than John Noakes, they don't make them like that any more!
