RIP Darcey's Bitter Mild - age 4 weeks
RIP Triple Hop Kolsch - age 3 weeks...

MIFA - Went missing in fermenter action. overwhelmed by infection.

I am strong, but I fear the 5 empty cornies may not take the news so well...

I have had a run of bad luck before. Clean out your fv's disinfect and disinfect again and then some. Have a look at what you have done differently, are you using cultured or stored yeast which may be infected have you left them to long as you haven't had time to drop into a clean fv. Just look at everything and see if you can find out what happened. I had a bad batch and it was down to under pitching yeast and it taking longer to get going. It fermented out but quickly over run by unwanted nasties.

Sorry for your loss.

Both bad batches were from liquid yeast... but the batch before was from liquid as well.. and it was the best thing I have never made! Amazing beer.

I am going to demote the FV to being the brewery bin or grain store and buy a new one. It was only £5 afew all.. Also I am going to clean everything and kick the Mrs. out for the day next time I brew as we had to go 'shopping' half the way thru the last brew day

I will get over it with time. i have taken 15l of the Kolsch and going to chill it down to 2c for afew week then keg and see if its drinkable then, but it definatly has the soured flavour of a ruined brew. Perhaps i'll get afew pints out of it.

Besides perhaps its about time I spend some more money on brewing equipment!

Not a good sign when you are not concentrating on brewing. I hope it was grocery shopping and not shoe shopping.

Don't give up, I had the same problem a few years back. I would certainly look at a new FV. Did you make a starter for the liquid yeast, if so you can normally tell by smell if it's off.
