Hey all, so I'm ready to buy my first starter kit! Firstly I want to make lager so I've been looking round. Ive seen kits in wilko the range but I have just discovered a shop in the town next to mine! Going online I see they sell this...

it seems like the basic price for a starter kit. Is this everything I need except for the actual ingredients?

Youll want a sample jar for the hydrometer and a packaging option - if go bottles ypu will need caps and a capper or alternatively a pressure barrel.

To begin with I was going to use bottles. Define a sample jar - can that be any container? I'm guessing we would put the liquid in it the same way as filling a bottle?

Basics look to be there, but I would not rely on a temperature strip. You need a thermometer. I have a simple digital one off ebay costing about£2.50 which is perfectly adequate for my brewing needs.

Thanks Terry, I'll give that a read!
I was thinking about a proper thermometer however I didn't know if that could contaminate the liquids? I'm probably overthinking yet as I don't really know what I'm doing until I go ahead and try.

Keep it simple to start with and get the basics right . When you confidently know what you are doing you can then decide how you want to move on, if at all. Homebrewing can be as simple or as complicated as you want it to be, but the quality outcome is not necessarily directly proportional to the time you invest or the money you have spent. And bear in mind that the advice you get on this forum will often be variable and perhaps conflicting so you have to choose your own path forward, and sometimes you might get it wrong
Finally you will not contaminate your brew if you properly sanitise any equipment that comes into contact with your wort or beer.
