1 bottle of ribena light
one bag of sugar
1 pkt of yeast from wilkos
started it sunday 9th aug and its bubbling away . as anyone tried this if so will it be anygood ?

Hi Holly, i too made a ribena this weekend actually, like yours i used a bottle of ribena whole bag of sugar, topped up with warm water. I took a reading and it was showing 110 Before adding the wine yeast, it is now bubbling (slowly) at around 21 degrees in the cupboard under the stairs.
My friend made one the other week it lasted all of an hour while we played cards

probably starting mine tomorrow now, will follow your instructions and see what happens, will maybe boil the ribena first to get any preservatives off (seen this in other instructions, although boil may be a bit strong, maybe simmer it for 10 - 20 mins and melt sugar.

got to get some sterilising agent and pick me blackberries as well :D

ok well heres what i did

----------------------------------------------
ribena wine

750 grams sugar
1 litre bottle ribena extra light
1 litre asda cranberry juice

mixed sugar with ribena (and some of the cranberrie juice) and boiled gently for 15 mins in a pan to allow any preservatives to boil off and then skimmed scum off.

added a litre of cold water to me demijohn, and the rest of the carton of cranberrie juice.
then added the sugar / ribena / cranberrie mix to the demijohn and topped up with water (to the shoulder only!)

allowed to cool to room temp
Then added :-
1 teaspoon of youngs yeast
1 teaspoon of youngs nutrient

SG 1074

shook violently to mix and airate!
started 02 / 09 / 09

will top up probably with cranberrie juice in 48 hours or so

----------------------------------------------
decided to substitue some of the water for cranberrie as others have done this , hopefully enhance the flavours as well!!!
i didnt fancy putting loads of sugar in, dont want this to be rocket juice, i know theres sugar in the cranberrie , but from what ive been reading because of the non fermentable sweeteners in there anyway this should turn out yummy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thingers crossed

NOTE : THIS IS A FROTHER! DEFINATELY DONT FILL TO THE TOP!

let me know how it turns out mate thinking off trying it regards

well its definately one that you need to keep an eye on, it will bubble over if you over fill, but yesterday i decided to rack it and degass it, there was a nice sediment on the bottom but it was still going (fermenting with regular bubbles) but the syruppyiness of it started doing my head in, having to clean the airlock out every day due to it frothing into it, not a volcano , but still enough to get infected if left unatended.

So i racked it to a clean demijohn and give it a roight good degassing, jesus this has to be one of the fizziest yet.

anyway once in the clean demijohn and degassed, the frothyness has calmed right down to the point that ive moved it in with the dog under the stairs unwatched!.

heres a quick photo

well what can i say, final rack today to a clean demijohn, gonna let it settle then put it through filter, but had a taste and WOW! superb, nearly as good as my rose fruit juice one.

it was a little strong (ribena tasting) but i`m gonna dilute it anyway with white grape juice, as only now am i confident about topping it up to the hilt!!!

but definately this is a non wine drinkers wine, thats for sure............

OH and still mega fizzy, if degassing by shaking in the demijohn, then do it in half demijohns, as it erupt like a skaken bottle of coke!!!
