Red IPA recipe request......

I do enjoy a red IPA when I rarely find them in a decent pub/tap room. I'd like to give one a go, but not sure where to start after searching on here and the internet hasn't given me lots of info i'm after.
Any help appreciated.

Thanks for posting that link. Quite like the fact that it isn't a fussy ingredient recipe. Although I was thinking of maybe something sub 5%. (Maybe I should have given more detail in my opening post!)

I edited to add a second link. What was the original RIPA that tickled your fancy? I had a lovely Black IPA at Riverhead brewery tap in Marsden! But never heard of a red.

It had a lovely sweetness to it and a good balance of floral hop flavours from memory. Probably similar to a British Ale.

You mentioned 'British ale' which is an odd expression! I thought you might be from outside the UK! I hope you've tried Timothy Taylor's Landlord, which everyone knows is the world's best beer, and I'm not even a Yorkshire man. Head down.

I did have in mind using at this as at least 50% of the malt bill as I was putting an order together on that website earlier.
Just the hops and yeast to choose next!

The last red IPA I made was back in Oct 17, with 90% red x - according to my notes cascade & citra went quite well, although I noted I that a slightly lower mash temp and/or more IBUs than expected may have helped balance the malty sweetness

I was thinking 20-30 IBU's at no more than 5% ABV, but by the sounds of it I would need more? What yeast did you use?

I used CML US pale ale yeast, and got 77% attenuation - was quite big at 6.2%.
Difficult to comment on IBUs as it depends on your OG, and personal taste, but may we worth adding a few more than you usually would in a standard IPA to help balance it out

Other than Red X malt and yeast I have lots of hops in the freezer and malts in stock at the moment. I have gone a bit conservative with the Red X malt @ just 42% of the malt bill. I'm going to use hops that I have in the freezer.

Here is the 20L recipe i'm going with:
Red X Malt = 2.5KG (42%)
Pale Malt = 2.5KG (42%)
Golden Promise = 0.5KG (8%) - (May change this to 3KG instead of the pale malt)
Caragold = 0.25KG (4%)
Crystal 60 = 0.25KG (4%)

Hops - total IBU = 49
15 mins = Centennial, Cascade & Simco - 25g of each
Whirlpool for 20 mins (@80C) = Centennial, Cascade & Simco - 25g of each

Yeast: London III

Water Profile: (50/50 tap & Ashbeck)
Alk: 18
Calcium: 185
Chloride: 140
Sulphate: 261
