Hello all. I'm thinking of branching out into the world of wine making. Is there a book/s that you would recommend? :cheers:
 
CJJ Berry, and also the boots book of home wine making. Both can be picked up for pennies online.
 
“First Steps” may be somewhat outdated but is still valid reading for many of the basics, and also contains a useful set of recipes arranged by what might be available month by month. You should be able to pick up a copy quite cheaply.

Ask here for confirmation or modification of any recipes though.

Other than that, use the interweb.

Stop it, I haven't got a site, he's only talking about stuff like the WOW guide. Although I've tried to write that for the complete novice and tried to explain why you do a few things rather than just saying “do this, then do that”, I've only just begun to scratch the surface. Read the book.
 
Be careful of the (First steps) book though, his recipes have too much sugar, i made a few and threw them down the sink, i did think about blending them with some other dry wines but thought, why bother, Dave NE

Not necessarily, they frequently have too much water, and this is why I said “Ask here for confirmation or modification of any recipes though”.


His recipes don't have too much sugar if you follow them exactly, because in most cases if you have a quantity of fruit plus a quantity of sugar plus a gallon of water you are quite likely to end up with 10 pints of must, leaving you with a full DJ plus a secondary bottle which will be used for topping up after racking.

If you use his sugar quantities and make water up to a gallon, that's where the problems start.
