Recommend a Lager kit...?

I've tried Geordie's Lager kit (can't quite remember just how good or bad it was) Brewferm's Gold, Coopers Mexican Cerveza, Coopers Australian Lager, Coopers European Lager, Morgan's Blue Mountain Lager and Morgan's Cortes Cerveza.

Any other's out there that are certainly worth a go?

I have done two; Edme german style lager (wilkos) thats was quite good, but it was my first kit so i would somehow tweek it now possibly. And Muntons Connossieurs Continental Lager, more like a beer - not overly impressed with that one tbh.

The only lager kit I did when I was kit brewing was the Brupaks beers of the world Bavarian pilsner. After a long lagering in the garage it was very good! I found the last bottle a few weeks ago, must have been in the garage for about 18 months. : Nice suprise

Can I just say with most of the lager kits, it is probably not a good idea to replace any sugar called for with malt extract. . . . I know this seems counter intuitive (i.e you add malt extract to make a better beer), but I have found that this always tends to make the lager more ale like. . . . This is where beer enhancer comes into play as it is only 75% fermentable, so gives body without contributing to the flavour.

Also no lager kit is going to benefit from being fermented with the supplied ale yeast, always substitute it with S23 or S-189 or my favourite W34/70 which are all available from Barley Bottom, and ferment cool at 14C

I found the Muntons Continental pilsner to be very good (fermented cool with a lager yeast) and the Brupak Beers of the World lager kits are very good

Forgot to mention I'd done that one also. Found the taste a little uninspiring and bland.

Quite pleased with Brupak's Colne Valley Bitter. Seems the Beer's of the World range is getting the thumbs up also.

Ok, it's been a while since I last posted on this topic. So while I've been away has anyone got any more lager kits to recommend?

ive brewed both the tom caxton real ale and lager, they both seemed pretty much the same, even the lager kit turned out very dark in colour and more like an ale, its drinkable but if ur lookin for a light lager then stat away! coopers mex cerveza fits the bill

I've brewed three kit lagers the Munton's Mexican Cerveza which I wouldn't recommend, the Coopers European which I would but only after a long conditioning period but I see you've done that.

I also did the Brewferm Pils with S-189 and lagered it for a month. Very good indeed but I preferred the Coopers Euro. Definitely worth trying with proper lager yeasts though as pointed out earlier

I've tried Cooper's Mexican Cerveza, it was good but the ultimate is Morgan's Cortes Cerveza for me. Has a wonderful hint of lime with it plus it's closer to the taste of Corona if that's you thing. :thumb:

Ok, I'll steer clear of the Munton's kit then. Never tried the Brewferm Pils, did the Gold, it was ok nothing too special. I've done Coopers European Lager, turned out pretty good. :)

Did you condition the European Lager at single figure temperatures? i.e in the fridge?
