Recarbonating beer

I've written another thread where I said that a porter kit of mine tasted funny and pours really weird like a Guinness, not much carbonation to it.

I'm wondering if I can open up the keg and just add some sugar to recarbonate the beer?
 
How long has it been like that?
Perhaps add some more yeast in it too [half the amount for fermentation], this way you'll definitely get it carbonated.
 
I wouldnt bother with additional yeast, there will be a fair few million dormant yeast if not billions in the keg. rather than add sugar, perhaps diluting some in a small volume of cooled boiled water and a gentle under the surface stir as you add it you will have a 2-3 week wait before its ready to sample..

with the lid pff check the pressure relief valve or lazy bands are taught and not letting too much pressure out too.
 
Adding sugar will help but what was the cause of it not carbonating in the first place, adding sugar may be a pointless exercise if you have a leak
 
What sort of keg is it? If it doesn't already have one, get a top with a S30 valve and a Hambleton-Bard CO2 cyclinder and squirt some extra CO2 in - will also help you identify any leaks.

I always have one of these handy, because just putting beer into a keg with sugar and tightening the lid you can never be sure you haven't got a leaky seal.
 
I don't know what the cause of it all is, my previous kit was fine but I carbonated with co2 then. So yeah I have a cylinder I can put in which is probably a much better idea now I think about it ha.

And it's been like it right from the very start about a month ago now
