real ale fan. New to home brew

Hi all,
After attending a party/home brew beer festival at a friends house it was decided that for my birthday this year i would recieve my own home brew set up. I remember as a child my old man brewing home made wine and he also had a brew in a bag thing ten or fifteen years ago, following in his footsteps here we go!
So i started off my first brew last saturday, The wife got me a home brew kit from wilco's and a Woodfords sundew brew from beers of europe near Kings Lynn. The fv has taken pride of place in the lounge and is bubbling away quite nicely. Luckily i have a friend on hand to give advice and guidance. It does apear even though its very early days, all is well, so far so good.
Hope to keep you all posted as the brew takes shape.

How mental do they go?
i have done the decent thing and stood it on a towel. Don't want to make a mess on the carpet the old lady won't be very happy!!!
Really hope this goes well, i had hoped to be drinking my first pint by christmas but i will try and resist the urge. I have read various threds and it seems the longer you leave it the better it tastes.

:lol: It's not often like that. The kit i'm doing at the moment is well known for being very messy. I have it in my living room wrapped in a bin liner to be safe.

i did the nelsons revenge from these about 2 months ago and im afraid to say mines all gone made 36 pints left it in pressure barrel for a week and couldn't resist 1 after another so my advice would be get another one started like streat away

Thanks for all the welcome meesages :thumb: i sat up til the late hours last night reading loads of different threads from successful brews to stuck brews and total disasters
Not so worried now about taking this hobby on with all the friendly offers of help.
Its now been on the go for three days, three more and i will pop the lid off and then hopefully siphon it into by pressure barrel

Morning all,
Just a quick update, been checking on a regular bassis over the last few days. Still getting bubbles in the fv but they have slowed down now so tonight it looks like it may be the night to sterilize my keg and siphon the fv. It smells ok and is starting to clear, hopefully it will be ok. :?

morning , welcome and stop!! step away from the brew! leave it well alone where it is for around 10/14 days (even if ready) there are odd +off flavours that the yeast will clean(fix) if you give it a little more time. Also you need a hydrometer , use it and when it has stopped dropping for 2 or 3 days in a row then its ready to bottle (as long as you've left it a few more days ) instructions may say like 6 days , well it ain't enough time to get the best out of your brew. :
