Hi all.
Just finished bottling a batch of Muntons imperial stout and was wondering is it ok to
through another batch on top of the old one or does everything need to be sterilised again?
Thanks in advance!!!!! :thumb:

I think it depends, have you bottled from the primary fermenter?
I've heard of people pitching on top of the old yeast cake before to save using new yeast.
There are a few things to watch out for though:
You need to make sure that when you are racking the old beer out that the fermentor doesn't become contaminated in any way. I would've thought you would have wanted to pitch in strait away & not have it sitting around too long.
Also i think you might get some flavours coming through from the old beer - e.g if theres loads of yeast from you're old imperial stout then you wouldnt want to dump a pale ale onto it!

Personally I'm not a fan. Yeast is pretty cheap & it doesn't take too much effort to re-clean and sterilise. I'd only do it if you feel v confident of your sanitation and cleanliness & if its a good yeast strain that you want to reuse.

Thanks guys thats made my mind up,gonna dump it and sterilise everything again.
Thanks again for such a quick response!
Much appreciated!!!
