Hi everyone. I have a Razorback IPA just about finished fermenting. Have made this successfully a few times before. Took a sample to check gravity and on looking at it in the hydrometer tube and now looking at the fermentation bucket, it seems much darker in colour than I remember. More like a pale ale, possibly even darker. It smells OK. Any thoughts? Bin it or bottle it?

If it smells okay and tastes okay there's no way I'd bin it.

There's an outside chance that the wrong malt packet was put in the box when the kit was made up, problem is unless you still have it which I guess is unlikely then you'll never know. There's usually something printed on it like IPA malt which alludes to its contents. I've got one to make up myself so if I remember I'll have a look later.

If it was the wrong malt you still have perfectly drinkable beer just not quite what you purchased.

Thanks Graz. My SG is still a little high at 1.100 so I'll leave it until after the weekend. Gotta be honest and say I didn't check what was was printed on the foil bags of malt before I started - maybe a lesson there for us all. I'll just have to call it my Mystery Beer!

1.100 is pretty high if it ferments out properly you will be over 10% ABV so I would go easy on it :onechug: As mentioned could be too much of a specialty malt in the kit. One thing also is beer in a fermenter and in a glass can look entirely different the lighting also may impact the colour appearance. If it tastes fine no point wasting it just put it in a glass see how it looks. I make lots of IPAs that come out with a copper colour always great tasting beers.

Sorry, my bad typing. Gravity was 1.010. Appreciate your input and apologies for that error.
