I know it's a bit American but does anyone else enjoy carving pumpkins. We find it's a good laugh and our gurning creations make visitors laugh. There is some amazing creations on the net on sites like "extremepumpkincarving.org".

Anyone else carve veg for Halloween this year?

 Some of our other Scottish contributors will know very well that one does not carve a pumpkin or any other variety of squash.

No, a proper big neep is what's required!

(but you just can't get them nowadays... what's happened to all the massive turnips? :wha: )

Is that the Death Star ? Love it! Here's our bunch in the dark.

The leg one is awesome too!

That is class, tempted to go out and buy more pumpkins to give that a try.

I carve one each year, or have done since I met my wife.

I'll be carving a couple tis year as she wants them for the shop she works at.

I think we might end up with some pumpkin wine, or cider, or beer or summat made from the bits I scrape out. I usually make pumpkin pie / pumpkin tart, but this year I'm going to ferment the stuff :D

Got told off last night by SWMBO  when I suggested a Jimmy Saville pumpkin carving,
she said "we only want to frighten the kids , not traumatise them for life!"

Use a disposable fermenter, this stuff stains bright orange and makes it hard to see through. Easier to make up the wine then discard the fermenter than to try to wash out the sticky orange goo.

It does make a good wine though, especially with pumpkin pie spices in with the boil.

I made pumpkin beer last year as I was missing it from home. It was alright, but I overdid it on the spice a bit. After the first taste out of the keg I thought there wasn't enough and when I went to add more it poured a lot faster than expected :(

Was still lovely after I gave it some time to mellow though!
