I want to go to a 2 tire system. HLT & BOILER on one level. Gravity feed from HLT to Mash Tun then pump from Mash Tun up to Boiler. Not going HERMS staying with insulated Tun. I assume I will mash as normal then sparge by opening mash tun tap full and controlling flow to the boiler by some kind of speed control at the pump. Can anyone recommend a cheapish Pump and speed controller please.

I'm looking for similar info snail.
I've managed to pick up a nice totton pump and another similar one.....both rated to 85 deg IIRC :wha:
Those solar pumps will handle boiling liquids :)
With right pump and suitable connections you could do both I reckon with one pump.
I won't be able to use mine on boiling liquids, so I think I will use mine as an underlet/recirc pump on the HLT and tun.

Hope you get more info snail. ATB

I gravity feed from my MT to my pump then pump up to the boiler using a totton pump i use a gate valve to slow the flow out of the pump

One thing about those solar pumps, they don't like grain through the impeller, it can cause them to seize up.

I work at bench height Snail and drain to buckets on the floor. Pumped with a solar jobbie, though I think my next upgrade will be a better pump

I had a bad experience with a solar pump, lasted two brews.

I went with a flojet pump in the end. I got mine from an ebay shop called Harmony Hut.

The pump is self priming and can handle hot ish liquids but you will need a compressor or pressure spray bottle to operate it. More info here.
