I get that but I don't get how that makes private landlords slavers
I now have visions private landlords going to other country's and stealing other landlords tenants and making them live in there houses, or do they go to auctions and buy tenants that don't really want to live in there houses
To be honest it's nothing like gangs of armed men going to poor country's and stealing human beings from there family's , treating them like cattle, shipping them round the world and if they are still alive selling them on to people who will then make them labour for poor food and accommodation with a good whipping thrown just for good measure

It's capitalism, supply and demand pure and simple.
People want to live somewhere and other people have houses they want to let AT A PRICE. Why should anyone make or sell or supply anything without their being something in it for them and if they invest in houses rather than stocks and shares then so be it.

Buying a house and letting someone live there rent free or at a reduced rent is very commendable but also foolish use of your own money when you have to live yourself. There is no shame in looking after your own self and family before you can help someone else.

It's capitalism, supply and demand pure and simple.

......

Of course it is! :thumb: :thumb:

The system used by The Bitch was to remove the "Supply" when the "Demand" was rising ...

... and subsequent governments have made sure that the "Supply" always lagged behind the "Demand" by restricting the money and power for Local Councils to build houses.

I have no argument whatsoever with the fact that people purchase houses with the sole intention of renting them out.

What I object to is that MY government pays out BILLIONS of pounds of MY money to Private Landlords when they could use that money to build affordable houses.

WE ARE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER ...

... yet the "Supply" and "Demand" system has resulted in thousands of families in the UK being evicted every year despite paying their rent because:

1. Their tenancy is not protected. (Again compliments of MY government.)

2. Their landlord can re-let the property at a higher rent. (Which is why the Housing Benefits are rising like mad.)

The combination of unprotected tenancy, increasing rents and a lack of housing practice stinks to high heaven!

I say "MY government" because they are acting in MY name even though they are acting against almost ALL of my principles.

So your going to retire on the income from somebody else that has to work to pay your rent.

Um! Thats "Slavery" mate how ever which way you look at it.

But not for long the government have spotted the trend so are taxing buy-to-let to ensure you dont get rich from it.

I am so sorry that I have worked so hard for such a long time to be able to afford to buy a house that I can rent out and make a profit. Its obviously my fault that some people cant get a deposit together so they can get a mortgage. Maybe if they also worked has hard as I do and saved as much as I do, then they may save enough for a deposit.
If you think its slavery, how about I phone my tenants up tomorrow and give them their 3 months notice to leave, sell the house, pay the outstanding money back to the bank and give my profit to charity

Replace "state" with TAXPAYER and you will get my drift.

No point in carrying this on. Buy-to-let is modern day Slavery unless like Popes Parents your happy to profit from the taxpayer.

Which is what this thread is actually about, Billions being paid by the state in housing benefit to greedy landlords rather than building council houses at cheaper rents.

Well, if you don't like the taxpayer paying the rent of the less fortunate, let's just get rid of the welfare system then...

...And yeah, people like my parents who went from council estate to having a nice lifestyle, they're bang out of order for having the audacity to work hard and make something of themselves...

Do you think people who are born into council estate, should just stay in that position for the rest of their lives, paying money to a housing association without ever progressing...?

Whoa there EVERYONE!

I started this Thread with the simple idea of pointing out that I disapprove of the government spending money on Housing Benefit when it COULD be spending the same money on building houses.

No-one has indicated that they approve of the government's actions; not even the Private Landlords amongst us.

If you agree with my original Post I thank you for your support. :thumb: :thumb:

If you disagree with my original Post please let me know where I am going wrong. :thumb: :thumb:

But in either event please stop the squabbling, because it serves no purpose.

Many thanks! :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

The question that you have got to ask is...Where are these houses going to be built?

The question that you have got to ask is...Where are these houses going to be built?

This is part of the problem:
1. There is plenty of greenbelt land available to be built on
2. But NIMBYS (Not In My Back Yard) object to new housing developments on greenbelt land
3. People want to live where work is, generally concentrating in and around cities and large towns
4. The problem with that is that the local amenities are already stretched, without a load of new people

Another issue is that we have a net immigration in excess of 300,000 per annum. Whether people like it or not, that only serves to exaggerate the housing shortage.

I too came from a council house in Bristol to make it worse. i have worked hard and have a nice house i own.

Its not about that. I'm not against renting or people doing what they want. My issue is the cancer in society known as Buy-to-let. House prices are being kept deliberately high by this and immigration its laughingly called a housing shortage.

Its not, its over population to keep house prices high. Buy-to-let forces people into a LIFETIME of slavery, never being free from income draining rent or owning their own home which, i believe, is a basic human right.

If those BILLIONS were spent on cheap affordable housing that ordinary people could buy or rent-to buy then there would be something for future generations not fatter greedier landlords.

Theres just been built a row of 10 houses where i live. average 3 bed terraced, on a busy main road. Awful, i wouldnt live there rent free. How much?

£300,000 each. no young couple can afford that so the're being sold for buy-to-let

so families that need them are forced to rent FOREVER its Slavery

Thats me done with this thread

there sint a housing shortage- there is a shortage of affordable housing in the hub city's

i work in london, the place (like many others) that allows dirty money to be invested into housing developments etc - who is having the Battersea power house re-vamped - ooo wait its the malaysian goverment - churning in a ton of money to make a **** ton of money afterwards - why then hasnt our goverment stopped this and made it into affordable housing ? BECAUSE ITS FOREIGN INVESTMENT - anyone born around that area unless very gifted or unless theyre going to inherit a great sum of money will have to move out of the area

prices are higher because of the amount of new jobs that are created in london and because we're in a bubble - the rest of the country is lagging behind with prices for propertys but also annual yield of propertys etc - making the gap larger each year etc etc etc....

this could be long but im going to leave it here as got bottling to do while its warm :)

I agree the prices of homes are too expensive and deposits do look impossible to achieve for young people. However, there are different schemes to help people buy homes out there...it can often just take patience and intelligent saving to afford to buy.

I disagree that owning a home is a basic human right...having a home yes, not owning one.

Your issue seems to be that people own more than one property in order to profiteer and give themselves a better life. Do you suggest that the government should take people's properties off them?

I refer you to point 3 in my earlier post, regarding what you're saying about housing shortage. It's no good having houses where people don't want to live because it's impractical for work.

The government probably can't afford to stop it and make "affordable" housing at Battersea...or they couldn't compete with the price the Malaysians were prepared to pay...it's a free market and the previous owners of the Power Station can sell to the highest bidder.

Prices in relation to salaries are high everywhere, London is a joke and I wouldn't live there in a million years.

My point is Buy-to-let should be illegal

Houses prices would drop to what people could afford and still live, mothers could stay home with their children rather than pay childminders and latch key kids. and so on and so on.

Slavery/treadmill its all the same.
