Think I am in the last chance saloon but here goes. If I ever make up kits, I tend to use the cheaper end of the market but my local shopkeeper recomended Muntons Premium Gold Midas Touch Golden Ale and even though it is about three times dearer than I normally would pay I gave it a go. Fool proof instructions [ could i be the execption?]. I have done it all correctly. Brewed out for 10 days, used heater belt to keep steady temp, kept it all clean, SG was bang on and not one bubble to be seen pre-bottling. The box suggests priming with light spay-malt rather than brewing sugar. Have done that, and now the problems begin. Has taken about six weeks to clear but all the bottles so far just erupt. Even chilling them or opening slowly makes no difference. Need a few more straws to clutch at before it goes down the sink.

First question would be how much spraymalt did you use?

The solution would be to open a bottle just enough to let the gas out - if you do it carefully then when you take the bottle opener off it should reseal sufficiently. Do this over the course of a few days - each time releasing pressure so that the overall carbonation level drops.

I'd try it with two or three bottles and see how the beer is after a week.

(Count yourself lucky, I have problems getting beer to carbonate at all! ;))

Out of interest what was you FG (final gravity reading before bottling)?

In the past there has been problems logged about the instructions on the muntons packs.

How much did you prime with out of interest? And before you open how much yeast is there at the bottom of each bottle?

Need to check records to confirm gravity, but the beer was completely inactive. As for Muntons instructions, I have made the IPA from Connoisseur range and it is idiot proof. I fill that into bottles and thump on crown caps. From this batch the crown caps go off like fire extinguishers, but I have 20 or so swing-tops that I will presevere with. Would be annoyed if I have followed a handy hint that turns out to be duff info. As for the residual yeast, there is not a huge amount, but it is sandy and not a tight circle like you would normally see. I have used left-over beer enhancer before to prime as that is spray-malt and a bit of dextrose. In general though, light spray malt is a bit fiddly to use maybe?
