I like pork scratchings when I'm having a pint.

Most of what are readily available in the shops are pretty rubbish.

The best I have found that I can buy are Midland Snacks Traditional Pork scratchings, which I get in MAKRO.

What others do people think are any good.

Just come back from a holiday on the yorkshire coast most butchers are selling the real thing which was great accept my 8 yr old has decided he likes it so I only ended up having one packet. Just noticed asda sell it in the beer aisles I will have to go back for some and let you know what it is like.

local butchers in our town have them and they are fresh :) Dont last as long as the packet ones though, but at the rate i can eat them it isnt a problem

birmingham indoor market in the town centre theres a butchers there that sells them by the bag load and i mean dustbin bag if you want then to

has anyone else noticed you can get proper scratching and these puffed up things too

I don't like them puffed up things, got to be proper scratchings for me.

I think I need to trawl the butchers and markets see what I can find.

We make our own, pork skin is available at Morrisons quite often around Sheffield area. They get marinaded in some sort of salt mix overnight then cooked in a Wok. Temperature needs to be above 200c so most deep fat fryers fail. We did bag them and sell them to local pubs for a bit but didn't make enough to justify the effort and couldn't work out how to scale up the operation.

That sounds interesting, I've never even considered making them myself.

perhaps thats the best course for this thread to take.

Cheers John, thats a fantastic offer.

We just don't seem to be able to get proper Pork Scratchings down here.

Many Thanks

Posted you a pack today Steve :thumb:
I also enclosed you 4 synthetic shuttlecock bases that we mould at work, they're great for making the hop bag float when dry hopping.... ;)
They're brand new but I'd sterilize them before you to use them..... "Don't Boil Them" cos they expand and look like a marshmallow!!

Cheers.

I'm just starting to experiment with Dry Hopping so they will be really handy.

Mmm, looking forward to some decent Pork Scratchings.

here in cyprus , all the pork sold is rindless
so i asked me butcher for some pork skins , i had to stop him filling a bin bag with them !!
i scored the skins and salted them and let them dry out uncovered in the fridge, i oiled them a bit with sunflower oil rubbed in and put them in my barby grilling cage and turned them like my life depended on not burning the skin :)
hey presto the best scratchings ok crackchings we had, bloody marvelous ,
