Gotta hand it to the little barstewards.. Those flies do a top job of converting one thing into another. Was looking forward to my Wilko's golden ale after all I've read but some jumped-up little bleeder had other ideas with its insectoid alchemy.
5 days in and it's started tasting like Sarsons.

Ah we'll. off to search for the beersamic vinegar thread I've heard so much about. Is it worth the wait?

I've got thousands of the buggers at the moment...next year the leftover pomace from cider making is not going on the compost heap

Can't wait for the frosts to come and kill them

They really are little bar stewards. I've lost one fermenter of my First Gold brew with hops out of the garden this year. and I've lost a fermenter of Weisse this year. I'm even fermenting under airlock inside fridges now, the little blighters must have got in before I got the lids on.

I had loads of them this year

small glass with wine vinegar and a drop of soap to break the surface tension

the little buggers just can't resist to camicasy to their death

try it with 2 glasses one cider vinegar and one wine vinegar

2 flies in the cider all the rest in the wine

so wine was the winner in my experiment

I didn't even bother with a film or paper trap as suggested in other posts

it is just not nesessary, they were almost all gone in 48 hours

had a few fruit flies appear early this year
little annoying @$%!

got rid o them in about a week

after pulling out my cooker i found some Wort that i must have spilt [I REMEMBER A HYDROMETER FULL I SPILT A WEEK OR 2 EARLIER]

What i did was make up traps of cider vinegar sugar wort and a drop of washing up liquid

the washing up liquid breaks the surface tension making them sink

the odd ones not sinking just squash em throught the cling wrap
they can squeeze there selfs in by landing on the cling wrap BUT ARE NOT CLEVER ENOUGH TO FLY UP AND OUT ha ha

put the mix in a bowl or whatever cereal bowl or any thing down to a sherry glass MICROWAVABLE
Then cover in cling wrap pierce with pin pricks about 1 every inch and half o so

set your traps by swishing the liquid so it splashes the cling wrap

then put in microwave until hottish and causing more aroma

fruit flies have extreme sense of smell

set them in all your rooms

Yodas and Jedis the lot of you. I love it here.

I'm on it. Thanks for the tips gents. Wine vinegar got the nod out of my intentional collection I have in for chilli jam. Thanks Godfrey & nobyipa.

My revenge will be sweet. Possibly tangy. Defo fly-ey. :wha:
