Hello,
I have a couple of 23l brews ready and I was wondering if I can syphon it into a collapsible bag/ polypin to mature and clear? I will have some delivered tomorrow courtesy of Mr ebay. Wondered if u just syphon into the bag and prime and do you just expell the air ? Do you leave any space "as in not full to bulging." For expansion? Aaaah questions questions

Cheers. Col.

Are going to use the polypins to mature or to serve from, you can do either. Once full expel any air by opening the tap and applying slight pressure. You can prime, if you are going to bottle you can use the pins to batch prime.

Hello,
Thanks for the reply, I have some Santas winter warmer just finished fermentation and was wondering whether to batch prime it and either put it into a polypin or a cheapo barrel that I have? Wanted to serve from there when it has done its priming and clearing if possible? Know you can do this out of the plastic pressure barrel but can you out of a polypin or am I dreaming ?
New to polypins so sorry to sound a bit dopey. Cheers. Col.

I've been serving from polypins for years. Like all things there are pros and cons. I use a hand pump but if you are serving direct I would recommend letting it condition around 10 days then add around 80 gms of sugar and finnings, if needed it, leave somewhere warmish, I used to leave in kitchen, for a couple of days until it starts to expand then move to a colder serving place. I normally finish the pin in around 2 weeks and you may find the last couple of pints are a bit flat but it's not a problem to for me. I have known it to last for 3-4 weeks.

+1 for serving from polyp in.
I too use hand beer pump, but not always..

Hello chaps,
Well last night syphoned from my fermenting bucket into a polypin. What a doddle fantastic. I think I should have left the bag in the box I think as I had to lift it into it which was fun. I primed it with 70 g of brewing sugar and i guess the polypin was about a gallon (5l or so ) short of being full.
Its still in the warm now getting its gas !!! And I guess its out into the store in the cool in a few days or before if I get any bulging ??? Lots of question marks here. Aaaaaaah. Hope I have got it right.

Thanks for your help. Sold on Polypins now. Cheers. Col.

Hi yep expelled the air as best as possible and then got the last bit out by opening the tap pointing up whilst giving her a squeeze. Sound passionate doesn't it ha ha .
Brew is Santa's Winter warmer which I last made two years ago and went down well.

Hope I got it right ? But wondered how long in the warm until she goes into clearing storage in the cooler store? Cheers. Col.

Howdee,
My first polypin full of a nice suprise from Santa for me ! Has had its 70 g of sugar and been in the warm now for two days. When I syphoned it into the polypin I expelled all the air. Now its gassing itself some "air" has appeared is this normal? Im sort of guessin its CO2 coming out of the beer? And is ok as this protects it from oxygen? And when this gets close to taking over the kitchen its out into the cooler to clear / mature?

Cheers. Col.

Yes, it will be CO2 that is generated as the beer conditions. This is good, you said you expelled the air in a previous post.
After 2/3 days in the warm, move it somewhere cool and the beer will drop clear. Just check it every day to make sure it doesn't expand too much and vent it off if required.

Your right it's CO2. If it's started to expand I would move it now. Leave it with the tap on top so if it gets to big, if you poke it with your finger there should be some movement. If it gets solid like a football let some gas out. you only need to put in to the serving position a few days before using.

+1 :thumb:

However, if you accidently leave with the tap at serving position and you need to relieve pressure you can always pour a pint. Shame you will have to drink it then. :D
