I believe that if you're in prison you should give up any rights you once had otherwise what's the point? I think rights should be earnt by not going around killing people.

I fully believe this. The second you commit a crime and sent to prison you give up all rights you had on the outside. Prison is suppose to be somewhere you don't want to end up not a place with free room and food.

Really?? All sorts of people end up in prison

Given that prison is supposed to be rehabilitation as well as punishment, stripping all prisoners of all rights is likely to be counter productive after all with rights come responsibilities.

Lets remember that rights include:-
A right to a fair trial so if you're convicted of another offence then should you just be convicted of anything else the CPS think fits?
The right to life so anyone convicted of an offence could be killed in prison without a breach of their human rights.
A right not to be tortured.
A right not to be discriminated against so, prison guards could racially abuse prisoners as they wish.
A right to religious freedom, so prisoners could be denied the right to worship whatever deity the so wish and while I'm agnostic I think that religion can help with rehabilitation.

Once you're out though, shouldn't most to all rights be reinstated?

The problem with people like Cregan is that they are never likely to be released. And he knows it. They are hard to control, as their is no prospect of release to modify behaviour. I say let him starve to death if he want to. It will save us a good few million or OUR hard earned cash. In the region of £7 million over his lifetime. I'm not sure he's worth that.

Well he's only got one eye and I've checked the declaration on human rights and there isn't anything which specifies that he has the right not to be skull f##ked.

Sadly, in this case, we are a civilised nation (well, pretty much, mostly, some of the time anyway) and civilised nations are measured on many scales, one of which is how we treat the confined in society.

Whether we like it or not Cregan is a British Citizen, as such he has rights, one of these is to be treated decently while in prison for the unforgiveable offence he committed :(

Personally I'd like to see hanging for people like him, but then, where do you stop?

Through it all, you have to try and remember what sets us 'decent/normal/moral' people apart from the evil of this world ;)

The phrase "**** him, he'll eventually pass out and they can force feed him" springs to mind.

A right to religious freedom, so prisoners could be denied the right to worship whatever deity the so wish and while I'm agnostic I think that religion can help with rehabilitation.
Completely disagree, religious run rehab programmes often talk about "breaking" non religious people and systematically picking them out and abusing them mentally and sometimes physically until they are forced. There were a few people on reddit who were in these kind of programmes at one time or another explaining it.

Which to my mind is brainwashing.
