So I made some plum wine. Had an early glass just and noticed a dark 'oily' layer on the top. Don't taste off. Is this just fuseal alchohol? It's about 14%

Just an odd layer of darker stuff floating on the top.

Anyone???

I've not racked this yet. But the SWMBO has put the heating on and all the gunk and the bottom has now floated to the top.

I had added kwik clear about 3 weeks ago. Hence why I had a cheeky taste the other night to see if it was ready to bottle.

I syphoned carefully from the top.

But now with the heating on the finnings seem to have gone the other way and everything from the bottom has risen to the top. No real airlock activity. Just a mass of pulpy bits and trub on the top.

Confused.....

Never had this happen. Even of the heating is on. It's the only factor I can think off. It's not next to radiator or anything. Stays pretty constant at 12-15 dungarees sience.

I've just poured a bottle of a recent AG beer and there's also a small 1mm layer of something sat on the top.

Am I doing something wrong?
