Plastic demijohn demi john

Just writing up my thoughts on the plastic demijohn's available as a cheap alternative.

I wanted to get a 5 demijohn for racking purposes, plus they look kinda cool all lined up. I have seen the advertised and on sale from Brewers Droop in bristol. At £2.99 for the bottle, cap and grommet I thought they were a bit expensive. so went to the local tescos and got five 5lt waters bottles instead. They thought i was mad to buy the water and promptly pour it away in the street!!!! :? of course i'm completely sane :whistle:

I dont know if they are of the same quality/thickness as ones sold in for homebrew purposes, but cant imagine they would be much different. At somit like a squid a bottle, good value for money. I drilled a 10.2mm hole in the top of the lid, cut a short piece of syphoning tube to act as a grommet and jobs a good'en.

But really they are a complete piece of **** and wouldnt recommend anyone buying them. Wilkinsons do a demijohn for £4.99, I understand if things are tight but honestly DONT BOTHER :nono: , buy glass. As they arnt ridged enuf, when you lift them air is sucked in the airlock - bad news.

I thought i was saving money but they're just a waste.
Some things can be bodged and done on the cheap others cant, good lesson learnt. just have to make 5 or 6 more of the same mistales before i listen to my own advice
