After my last stout and an upcoming Hefe, I'll have some malts left over and thinking about how to use them.

Was looking through the Greg Hughes book and settled on the closest recipe that matches my ingredients and tastes, the black IPA.

I'll have a kilo of pilsner malt left over from the hefe and wondering if I could substitute a kilo of MO in the Black IPA recipe for pilsner?

The recipe asks for Pale, Carafa 3 and chocolate.
I'll have MO, Pilsner, Carafe 2 and chocolate.

You can with no issue other than Pilsner Malt is more expensive that Maris Otter (if you buy Maris on bulk) so you'll be loosing out there. Otherwise it'll have negligible effect to the beer, well, it'll technically be a lighter shade of black I suppose...

I've bought MO in bulk and wanted to use that for my next hefe after the standard pilsner one. So the spare kilo pilsner will just be sitting there doing nothing anyway.

General consensus still to go with a 90min boil if using pilsner? May be opening a can of worms here!

I'm planning an all Pilsner malt based pale. Not black, probably to go with the Riwaka hops I've got in a single hop. I'm aiming for a nice crisp base for the hops to sit on. Need to get my hard water treated first though.
