PID advice

Do I need a heat sink for the SSR?

Are there better sensors? I'm not adversed to spending out a little extra to get the right stuff first off.

If you are using a PID to control your HLT, you deffo need a heat sink.
PT100 probes are the most popular.

I've just ordered some more PID's as i plan on doing a control panel.

I already have a Sestos PID for the HLT so ordered 2 of these

Currently using a 1/4" bsp threaded PT100 from MrLard.

Not sure if you would need a heatsink on a 40amp SSR when running it at 10 or 13amps but i personally would

Cactus I just ordered that exact same pid about 10 mins ago.

How much did you pay for the bsp pt100? I see hundreds of metric size pt100's for 2 or 3 quid on eBay but can't find bsp for a decent price.

I gave up looking for a cheap bsp PT100 and just ordered from MrLard i think it was roughly £15. Shoot MrLard an email and he'll sort you out.

Be interesting to see how your panel comes on Cactus, as I'm planning to do the same once I've got the cash! Fed up of paying hand over fist for propane!

Although the spec on that advert doesn't show it the external sensor goes up to 95°C and it will apparently switch 16A

I need a project box for it but initial tests (measuring not switching) are OK albeit a touch slow at registering changes, compared to mt thermapen it reads 0.5°C higher.

You should be able to calibrate your probe to your thermapen.
That's assuming the thermapen is accurate.
