Paul Mullin: Wrexham ban striker from wearing 'f*** the Tories' football boots

The National League promotion chasers described photos the striker posted on his Instagram page as "an unwelcome distraction" and said it always tried to remain neutral when it came to politics.

Wrexham striker Paul Mullin has been told he cannot wear his new boots, which featured an X-rated message for the Conservatives.

Mullin had posted an image to his 25,000 followers on Instagram of the boots, with 'f*** the Tories' printed on the side.

But the National League promotion chasers, owned by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, moved swiftly to ban them.

A statement from Wrexham said the boots "will not be worn tonight or in any other Wrexham AFC fixture" and the pictures were posted "without our knowledge or approval".

"For the record, the pictures wouldn't have been permitted to be taken, had we known, and the issue will be dealt with privately by the club.

"The club has adopted a neutral position on many matters with a political dimension, and intends to continue to do so going forward."
