“Transport for London has recalled 90 electric buses after a fire involved one of them on Sunday.
The precautionary measure has been decided while the company investigates causes of the blaze, that happened at Potters Bar depot in Hertfordshire, run by Metroline.
Six buses were damaged.
Due to the suspension of the e-bus fleet, disruption will involve around five routes.”
Renewables are neither good for the economy or the environment.

I used to get Diesel for the car for 45ppl from Barton Park truck stop (near Scotch Corner) about 1996, everyone else was paying around the 66ppl mark (wasn't red Deisel, honest!)

This chart only goes back to 1999 but petrol was only slightly above 66ppl then.

Yes, but the photo is from much earlier. Petrol was 50 - 70 p per gallon in the mid-70s

I’m showing my age here …

… but I well remember stopping a film (remember those?) so that the group of lads I was lecturing to could salivate over the bit of the film that showed a petrol pump!

What made it memorable was that the petrol pump showed 2/6d a gallon! (That’s 12.5p in today’s currency - except they did away with the “new” ha penny within a few years of its introduction!)

I can remember seeing 5 Star leaded petrol for 5 shillings a gallon, when I had to get a gallon of paraffin for a heater, I was out 10 we lived in a small village where everyone new you.

Back in the day, until about 1988, every petrol in the UK was “leaded”!

As usual, the UK was backward in protecting its citizens!

One (now a well known brand) petrol company bought “one star” unleaded petrol from Sweden and put in enough lead (Tetraethyl Lead or TEL) to sell it as “four star” in the UK!

The UK caught up with Europe when our government introduced “unleaded” petrol after a massive campaign that centred on the brain damage done to young children living near roads.

That must have been about the time when we were out as a family and had to get petrol. When my Dad got back into the car he said to my Mum, " do you know love we won't get 4 gallons for a pound soon"

I was 16 in 73 and bought myself a moped (Yamaha FS1-E). It had only about a half gallon tank, but I remember being aware that £1 would get you 3 gallons.

A car that turned Vauxhall's around, from a loss making company.
