What is skunking? will that still happen with glass?
Use the search facility above and you will find plenty. I see Sean has already given a link.

Basically, hop residues react with ultra-violet light and give an off taste and smell, that's why beer should be kept in brown bottles, or any clear or green bottles kept in a box or cupboard. I don't think it makes any difference what the bottle is made of.

Aleman: Is this much of an issue with kit brews? I ask that because I've seen Isomerised Hop Resins listed on kit ingredients, and unclepumble has said something about commercial beers sold in clear bottles using those or some additive.

Edit: Found it, isomerised hops or Tetralone, link.

Well just to let people know i have just placed a order for pet bottles and ill be placing them in a cardboard box to make sure they dnt skunk (as you call it) thanks for all your advice guys. I have also got a heating belt ive heard people talk about them and thought id give it a go plus it upped my order for free delivery lol anyone have any bad experiences with heating belts

Brewbelts are ok as long as you keep an eye on the temperature daily as you will find that ambient temperatures will effect the brew temperature; whilst noting also that you adjust brew temps by adjusting where on the vessel you place the belt (further up or down).Get's the job done :thumb: Hope that helps.

I went to Morrisons and got 20 x 2lt bottles of their sparkling water for £2.00 when I needed bottles :thumb:
