Recently started using Cornies.......where do you get your CO2 and regulators?

Regards

K

Got my regulator from "Norm" (normanumpa on e-bay) he's the first point of call for anything cornie and regulatory and good to deal with.
Midget Widget cylinders are ok for blanketing your beer and serving from your cornie but a little small. It's worth thinking ahead and considering if you are likely to want to go down the keggerator route or like me using a beer gun for bottling cos you'll use quite a lot more and need a bigger cylinder.
Find out where your local cellar gas stockist is and see what the deal is there, it can be a bit of an initial layout for the cylinder deposit but you'll get it back in NOT spending petrol travelling about for refills.
I have yet to get set up with mine but I'll be going for a 7.2Kg cylinder that is about 30 inches tall.

I got my Cornies from Norm but when I emailed asking about other bits I needed I didn't get a reply.

Will ask again

K

Just emailed him now. Hopefully he can source the reg and I'll be able to find a C02 cylinder somewhere.....I work for a brewery so shouldn't be that hard!

K

ask at your local kev, i tried signing up with BOC gasses but couldnt get hold of the lady who deals with gas rental after about 120 phone calls, i asked at my local and got a beast of a co2 tank full for £8.

Yeh I'd thought of that but I'm not really connected to any boozer so would just seem like a gypsy going in asking for it!

Could you get another from your boozer?

K

Right I'm having real trouble getting a cylinder and more importantly, somewhere that will fill it on a regular basis.

Any ideas?

One of the lads in Dunfermline uses BOC. The only downside is that they put you on a service contract at £2 per month. The regulator came from Norm.

Thanks for that. I've found that Allson wholesale in Buckhaven sell them and I called them but they want £60+£25 for the cylinder!? WTF?

Is that normal?

K

Right - decided to call BOC today and open an account.......guess what........they do accounts for home brewers.

Cylinders arriving on Fri and everything sorted. Cost was VERY competitive compared to others and they deliver/pickup from my house.

Well chuffed.

K

Basically just pay for the gas. The delivery and pick up is free which is brilliant for me as the nearest C02 place is about 20 mile round trip from me. I can open an account for £2 a month but the fella said if you don't use the gas a lot it's cheaper to not do that. He said there's loads of home brewers doing it and he was well aware of what I needed, etc.

I'll post the rest of the stuff tomorrow as I left the paperwork, etc at work.

Basically it's costing pennies a day and someone brings it and takes it away. Could have as many bottles as I want so I never run out.

Lastly, the gas is also 100% food-safe which isn't something I'd thought off when looking at fire extinguisher places filling my bottles!

That sounds ideal - I am looking forward to seeing the details. :thumb:

Will do. I'm well chuffed as it's saved me a right ball-ache.

Only downside is that they only deal in 15kg or greater cylinders. They do smaller ones but they're really expensive.

i had a nightmare trying to get in touch with boc, the woman phoned me back after i left a message, tried phoning and got an answering machine, tried about another 100 times at different points ovr 2 weeks then decided to leave another message, the same woman phoned about 10 mins later when i was in work and she left a message ssying to contact her by email, well i did about 4 months ago and yet to hear back. BOC- Bunch Of C**ts!

Edited by V1, added couple of asters

Oh yeh I've had those companies before!!! However, I found the direct number for sure gas on their site which is the pub stuff. My conversation went like this :

BOC: "Hi how can I help?"
Kev: "Hi I want some c02 for serving beer at home"
BOC: "Oh cool, a home brewer, let me sort your address details out then we'll put you through to the right people"

Done

Wee update.

It's £2 a month to have an account (which I've done so I don't pay for cylinders) and £17.50 +VAT for the gas......which is a 15kg cylinder.

Done. Sold to the fat man in Scotland!

Hi,
I'm in Dunfermline. BOC are who I use, on the same terms as you have described. Very easy to deal with. The monthly DD goes unnoticed as it is so small and gas refills are reasonable. And the man in the van will come and pick up your empty and drop off new bottle when needed. All in all it works yery well.

2 quid a month (24 a year) and 17.50 for a bottle that could well last a year?

That's the same as a well known supplier for a bottle less than half that size!

Guess where I'm getting my has from next time.
