Hello again

After trying a small AG as described on this site I wanted to up scale a bit so I bought a Peco boiler a few weeks ago off a web site endorsed on this forum.

I finally had a chance to use it today and issues have happened.

Firstly when I connect the unit to the mains, it trips out my electric supply. The rcd kicks in.

Does anyone else have this problem?

After giving up on that, I noticed that the mains unit itself on the boiler started to leak. Is there a way to stop that?

I've emailed the company I've bought it off for an answer, but hoping someone here might know what's up.

Clearly the leaky unit is ultra dangerous.

Gutted as I've booked a day off to brew. :-(

Wow! Full sympathies from here!

I don't even own a Peco Boiler but they have a superb reputation on the Forum so you are either incredibly unlucky, have a lemon that has been off-loaded on to you or have a clone as per the BBC "Fake Britain" programme.

Either way, it obviously needs fixing before you use it so my only advice is "Don't Touch It" because it will void the warranty of even a genuine unit.

Hope it works out for you; and soon! :thumb:

No, mine never cut out or leaked, and I only hand tightened the locking nut. Sounds like it is getting shorted by the leak. There might be a crack or a gap letting water in where the element is welded to the exterior of the metal plate. Bummer. You will need a replacement.

Sorry to hear this, +1 on don't use it as it may well be the leak causing the short out. Mine is fine (it's the digital one) after 4 brews, the only problem is - if it's a problem - I never get a 'full rolling boil' - it simmers away nicely though I wonder if others find this?
Hoping your problem is sorted out soon!
Cheers

The socket is the same one the kettle is plugged into.

Haven't managed to get hold of the company that sold it to me yet :-(

I dont want to slag em off until they get in touch - which they haven't so far. I will say though they do have a discount link with this site.. Hence why I bought it from them.

In other news I emailed Peco to ask about it.

Got a reply within 20 mins and they will send me a new element tomorrow. How's that for great customer service.

Very good service indeed from PECO.

I've had mine for y months and so far *touches wood* I haven't had any issues!

I wasn't asking you to slag them off, just that someone may have a contact for the company. Do they have Facebook?

Slag em off is probably not the term to use, but naming and shaming fully....

Actually stuff it, since they still haven't got in touch - it was off geterbrewed.

if possible pick up the phone and call em, everyone is swamped with email, Just remain calm and polite ;) In the unlikely event you dont get the response you expect, collect the reps name and position and hang up before crafting a real letter you send by registered post after keeping a hard copy.
while calls may be recorded and binding contracts can be made verbally over the phone you just try getting a transcript or recording off a private organisation !! And in any dispute a real hands on paper trail trumps email and phone calls..

I contacted the PECO boiler guys before even though didnt buy from them and they were really helpful and the boiler comes with a years warranty so if it is an authentic PECO boiler and new they would still cover it!! Just give them an email!

Where have you got the washer?
I've got the HBC version of the Peco boiler and I initially had problems with leaking around the element. This was when I had the washer on the outside as recommended by some people on this site and even the company themselves. As soon as I moved the washer to the inside I've had no leak at all even with the nut hand tightened.

I phoned them the other day and left a message, but they still haven't got back to me.

The new element arrived from Peco this morning.

I wouldn't touch it until you have spoken to Geterbrewed especially as i have asked them to read the thread.

I wouldn't just leave a message i would keep ringing until i got through, have you tried the facebook suggestion below by Leon103?

They answer on Facebook really quickly

Geterbrewed are located here at Hillstown farmshop.I was up there yesterday and got an autosyphon. You could try contacting a member of staff there on 028 9447 8662.
You may get someone who can sort it out for you.
+1 on what ChippyTea has said due to the fact if it is faulty and you replace the element from the manufacturer your warranty from them will be null and void.
