Hi all I've just joined this forum and had a browse for a couple of hours yet can't find the answers to my questions so I thought I'd ask you guys.....I'm making 23 possible 46 litres of pair wine.....i have 120 medium sized pears which I intend to put through my juicer machine question 1 would it be a good idea to not only keep the juice but the pulp to ? Question 2 how many litres will the pears actually make ? Question 3 I cannot for the life of me find a recipe for pear wine that actually consists of my juice machine method.......thanks in advance guys 😉

Answer 1, yes add the pulp to primary, strain later.

Answer 2, not sure, add water, juice sugar etc to bring up to desired volume.

Answer 3, dont bother with a juicer unless you have a press. It will take ages in a juicer! Just wash them chop them add to boiling water and mash away!

:-)

A 'whole' fruit juicer is best, since you don't have to cut the pears. I estimate you have about 15 kilos, which should yield 7-8 litres of juice. You can get a few more litres from the ejected pulp and froth either with a press or simply mixing it with the juice, adding pectic enzyme, yeast and yeast nutrient and leaving it for 3 days. The pulp will rise to the surface, so allow for expansion, and can be skimmed off with a sieve. Pears contain about 10% sugar so you will need to add more sugar to make wine, at least 500 g per gallon plus 5g tartaric acid. I have a recipe which includes 250 g of melon and 250 ml of rhubarb juice per gallon to enhance the flavour and only the juice of 2 kilos of pears per gallon.

Brumbrew thanks for the advice.....i decided to use the electric juicer......took me an hour and a half lol.....wasn't bothered thou excited to make my first home brewed wine....thanks again 😉
