Just flicking through the CJJB book and seen the pear wine recipe, looked out the window and seen that the wind is attacking my pear tree :( so might be time to get some picked.....

How good is the CJJB recipe? does it need tweeking? and lastly how long is this wine likely to take?

Need to make sure i got enough DJ's for planned ferments ;)

Im a fairly new brewer with lots of pears, any chance of a recipe for pear wine?

Thanks

I'll check my notes this evening and get back to you.

Buy youself a copy of C.J.J. Berry's “First Steps in Winemaking”, it has been around forever but the basics should still make essential reading, and it's got loads of recipes. You should be able to find a copy dirt cheap on Amazon, and it's on the interweb in pdf format if you want to go searching, but don't post any links because that's in breach of copyright.

If you can beg, borrow or make a fruit press, pears are dead easy, just freeze them, defrost them, wrap them in muslin parcels and squish clear juice out of them.

That recipe works fine, but like the man says, don't overboil.

If you've got any means of pressing fruit you might like to take a look at this topic. If you've only got a few pears to deal with you can freeze, defrost, wrap them in small cloth parcels and squeeze them one or two at a time by hand using a potato ricer.

PS: I never bothered getting back to grinchy because I noticed you had bumped a 2 year old question.
