Passivating SS Brew Bucket

I doubt your average brew is going to kill you...the average potato crop is sprayed six times....I'm planting extra this year.

Does seem pointless worrying what goes into the beer, the alcohol content is after all a class A carcinogen, liver damage, diabetes. For me its the thought of a double whammy hitting my innards.
 
Agree. I was being facetious regarding grain. I've used rice hulls a couple of times and always rinsed them prior to use.
 
Barkeeper's Friend (oxalic acid) for passivating is what I use. Heck, a tub of BKF should be in the cleaning kit of any brewer that has SS vessels. I polish my kettle, fermenter and kegs with it after every use.
 
I was in Wilco today buying oxicleaner for a glass demi, and I saw citric acid for very cheap so I'll passivate with that. It's also good for removing limescale which is needed on my kettle.
 
I bought a Brew Bucket, it's the first SS conical fermenter I own. I understand I need to passivate it before use which involves using starsan on the surfaces for 20 mins. This makes sure the stainless steel doesn't react and therefore doesn't rust etc.

Can I use the starsan afterwards to sterilise other things? For example can I refill my spray bottle with it?

Would it be best to passivate it on my next brewday so it's sterile and ready for a batch of beer, or does it not work like that?

The recommended concentration for passivation is 1 ounce of starsan per US gallon but the recommended concentration for sanitising is 1 ounce of starsan per 5 US gallons. Although at sanitising concentration levels it is not harmful and does not have to be rinsed, at passivation concentration levels I think it needs to be rinsed. So I think it might be a good idea to rinse it after having passivated and dried it and then to sanitise it just before you are ready to fill your fermenter.
