I think that you are not reading the situation here, this is the government, the law makers, on one side, and not the government on the other. Remember this has little to do with whether there was a party but whether Johnson stood up and denied that there had been any rule breaking, which there obviously had. (His birthday party was not a work event but a mixing of social and work, definitely not allowed)

My mistake, i always thought that the rules applied to all ,it is looking like Starmer and the labour party are doing exactly the same in lying about a social gathering .

“Sad” because, if Mr Starmer is found …
  • … “Guilty” it won’t bode well for the Labour Party.
  • … “Not Guilty” we can’t expect any apologies from his accusers.
Either way, it doesn’t seem to have distracted the Voters but the “accusations”, be they ever so flimsy, will continue just like they have done with every Labour Party Leader since its inception.

Never forget that the people who spread these rumours have no shame!

why is it looking like a social gathering? why, when the "new evidence" is a timetable of days event does it not look like a meal at a work event, which was within the lockdown rules of the time?

and why was Johnson fined for the birthday cake? (there is a clue in previous posting)

And let us not forget that the reason that the Met decided to investigate Downing Street was because of Sue Gray passing it on in her opinion that there had been obvious rule breaking.

It doesn't matter how it's described if the (add whatever word you prefer here) was with people from outside the persons bubble then it breaks the rules.

Part of an earlier post in the thread -
Under rules in place at the time, it was illegal for people in England to socialise indoors with people from outside their household or support bubble..

Starmer will be gone by Friday
If he isn’t, because there was no truth in the allegations, can we expect heartfelt apologies from his accusers?

BTW I remember an Offshore Installation Manager who called a meeting of his staff to discuss allegations being made about his management style.

The room erupted when he announced “When I catch the alligators I will …..” and the rest of his speech was drowned out by hysterical laughter!
:hat:

If Starmer is fined I hope he does resign. He has not had a great impact as a leader so a new face could be a blessing and it would make Johnson look the unscrupulous personality we know he is. But at this moment in time Johnson has been found guilty Starmer hasn't unless you consider the daily fail the judge.

How is it that it is always the fault of Tory scum and the Tory press, where would the left be without these to blame ?
Indeed. The Tories are not scum because they're Tories, they're scum because most (not all) of the present lot are among the most reprehensible, unprincipled and morally bereft individuals to ever walk on God's earth. There are many others of a similar kidney in other walks of life, but they are not the ones who we (collectively) have nominated to represent us and govern us. The Mail, I think, started this particular campaign, whose line has "Nazi" running through it in much the same way as rock is thoroughly impregnated with "Blackpool".
Do you disagree with any of that @starseeker ?

If only we had someone as great and principled as Macron as our leader

Yes i do ,and are you now saying that the Daily mail is run by Nazis for Nazis (the readers)

Interesting turn of conversation. Just what is it you don't like about Macron? True, he's reviled by those who don't like him, but he was selected in the first round on the basis of what he stands for. It's the second round where you vote for the lesser evil. I've got no axe to grind as I can't vote in French elections, but I think I know a bit more about the lad than quite a few of the French simply because I took the trouble to read his book, essentially his manifesto, before he was elected first time round. Like what he stands for or not, he's sincere and has pretty much stuck to what he said in "Révolution". The French electorate are not at all like the British/English- they hate change and their perception of their relation with the State is entirely different. Macron is trying to drag France into the 20th century before tackling the 21st and in some ways, the French are even more insular that the Brits.

No.
You just said that. Look at the way nazi propaganda was targeted and used to manipulate the ordinary folk before and during the last big one. The way part of our media is orchestrated today is straight out of that songbook.
