I popped into the HB shop today and bought 6kg of crushed Maris Otter. This is my first attempt at all-grain, so it's all a bit unfamiliar :wha:
Getting home I noticed each bag had (I'm guessing) about half cup of dust mixed in the grain. Is this to be expected? if yes, do I dry sieve it out, or perhaps a cold rinse? or simply ignore it and rely on Irish Moss to counter any possible clouding? TIA.

+1 yep, it does seem normal; If you wear dark clothes when weighing it out they always show the dust! Unless i'm just sloppy..

But in terms of the beer I've never noticed any problems from it, and never tried to separate it; I wouldn't try rinsing it out as even cold water may still rinse out 'some' goodness, and the grain will also absorb it so it'll be more difficult to then get the mash up to temperature.

Cheers
