Anyone tried using owlets apple juice for cider? I'm thinking of giving it a go this year, but slightly concerned about the price
of it, any ideas on other apple juices I could use? I was first drawn to owlets because I noticed you can get the individual apple
varieties eg. Bramley. I don't like sweet cider so was hoping to make something quite dry. Any ideas? Thanks

You can make dry cider from bog standard value range supermarket apple juice. I haven't tried making it with any of the more expensive juices so I can't compare but I would imagine that the difference wouldn't be that great, after the proper length of time conditioning.

Dry is the default for homemade, as the yeast just eats everything it can find.

My current favourite juice is Suma apple juice concentrate (health food shops) with a little cranberry to broaden the flavour spectrum a bit. Spot on for acidity and great taste.

There will be some variation between varieties, but any apple juice will end up dry if you let it ferment right out. The choice of yeast will also have an effect, as some are more efficient than others.

Of the options available from Owlets, IMO the best value option would be the blended cox & bramley juice, as the balance of acid and sweet should be good for a sharp cider, although you'll need to add some tannin. Cox/bramley comes in a 10L bag-in-box, while almost all the others are only available in bottles so will be much more expensive.

Had a go today using asda apple juice just the standard stuff, OG 1054, hopefully will get a good result. Will
keep you updated.
