I was brewing a Coopers Wheat beer yesterday with some tweaks... After carefully sterilizing all equipment, boiling all ingredients to avoid contamination, I was pouring the contents from my coopers can and... boom! dropped the can inside the fermenter :oops:

Quickly grabbed it back, bare hands... the tin had been in hot (not boiling) water for around 10 minutes before that... big question is: what is the likelihood that my batch will be contaminated? I've managed to get the temperature within the correct range and pitched the yeast straight away, it was happily bubbling this morning...

Will I loose my batch?!

Thanks, I hope so! I'm only on my third batch, don't know how easy these things can be ruined.

I find it particularly useful to remember that The Lord protects clumsy idiots like us ...

... so there's a 99% chance that it will be fine. :thumb: :thumb:

I dropped the yeast pack in on my last brew didn't say anything on here didn't want to look like a TiT
It has fermented fine so got lucky

My 2nd AG I had a tap blockage issue when my hop filer fell off the back of the tap. I had to stick my hands into the cooled wort to try and unblock it and ended up tipping the whole lot into my FV. The beer itself was a revelation and made en realise how good Homebrew can be!

Back in the 17 and 1800s they didn't have the sophisticated sanitising regimes we have now and they made drinkable beer. Sanitising is very important but tiny accidents like that are unlikely to make any difference!

Good to hear I'm not the only one who did such a thing... seems to be more common that thought!

I've dropped a rubber bung in a brew before. I just stood there for a while thinking "F***!" The brew came out really well though and I'm wondering if I make it again should I drop another rubber bung in?

I price tag once fell into my FV while i was pouring the sugar in, it swam round for quite a while before i realised it was in there, the glue had gone manky and i thought it was going to be a disaster, it wan't. :thumb:

A certain someone here 'dry hopped' with a Jay cloth. (Kitchen cloth for washing up)

As has been said 99.9% you will be ok.

As someone else said, I sterilise the cans. When I sterilise the FV I just chuck in everything I will use, except the packet of yeast. So FV, beer lit cans, tin opener, scissors etc all just gets steralised. Take it out with bare hands and theyre done too, , rinse everything off and make it straight away so when you make it the chance of contamination is small.
