The Escort (now 50 years old) made its show debut at Brussels Motor Show in January 1968, I never owned one but liked the Escort especially the Mexico which came along a little later.

My brother-in-law has one of the first Escorts in dry storage. Reckons it's gonna pay for his retirement...

Briefly shared a mk 2 1300L with my little brother, until he rolled it whilst I was away at uni. Mum wasn't impressed that I enquired about the condition of the car, first. Was 'fun' to drive, although safe braking required a certain degree of psychic powers and leverage off the steering wheel.

Once owned an Escort van but never the car. My first car was an Anglia which, if i am not mistaken, the Escorts predecessor. I was of course a great fan of Escort magazine but that's a different story.

About old cars. ...chap I used to work with cousin bought a clapped out old porsche for about 3 grand with a view to "doing it up"...contacts porsche for some details of spec etc and gives the chassis number etc...turned out to be a long lost prototype that they were "very interested in"...
A mate recently doing some plumbing work for an old girl in "a big house" ....she asked him to look in the garage at her late husbands "stuff" as she wanted it shifting...amongst a few classic motor bikes..original sierra cosworth with 4k on the clock and a roller. ....

Never had an Escort, but around 1975 Ford sold a "budget" Fiesta with painted bumpers and other cosmetic changes to keep the price down. I bought SWMBO one, so that she didn't have to borrow my Capri.

This was after I nodded off in the Capri and woke up with the engine screaming as she was doing about 50mph in 2nd gear! The explanation was "I will have to change down in a few hundred yards; and anyway I don't like bendy roads." We lived in Lincolnshire at the time!!!!

Happy Days?:gulp:
