I had a 1600 in green not the best combination but it was what i could afford at the time, loved the car.


 
Love a capri!! i had a 2.0 laser mk3. sadly i crashed it in 2007 and nearly killed my self , i defiantly used 8 out of my 9 available lives that day! The injuries i got are still very visible now, odd shaped nose that looks like my elbow from the side and looks like i had a cleft pallet. My wife has banned me from ever having one or any rear wheel drive cars ever again.

she will be damned if she lets a car take the pleasure of killing me away from her. i dont understand her final comments
 
Memories, i had a 3litre s in black ,mk3,that also due to my lead boot nearly caused me to have a couple of big crashes, i did not have it long as i had to sell it for the deposit on a house and went back to driving a yellow Ha van, bloody hell it was slow !

Absolutely loved it. Tail happy in anything but perfect road conditions, but great fun.
 
When me and my mates first learnt to drive and got into cars it was all Fords (Essex 😆). My mate got a Capri (1.6) and between him and his Dad spent several months customising it, can't quite remember the details but he had something like an X-Pack body kit on it, new wheels, twin choke Webber etc. Looked pretty awesome when it was finished, he wrote it off within about a month 😮 Not put off by this first experience he bought another 1.6 but this time decided to be a bit more subtle and spent some cash on it trying to make it look like a 2.8i though the lack of smoke from the second exhaust somewhat gave it away. That looked pretty good in the end too but can't quite remember how it met its demise. He bought a Escort cabriolet after that, was kind of cool on warm summer evenings down "Saufend" (Southend-on-Sea) seafront but I cringe a bit looking back on it now 😄

Unfortunately I'd decided to carry on my education rather than the lure of a banking job in the city so couldn't afford anything and had to make do with my Dad's Volvo estate. Eventually got a Mk II Vauxhall Cavalier, awful car, but at least it makes you appreciate decent cars when you're older.
 
Never actually owned one, but have always liked them. The Ford's I owned were Mk2 Cortina 1600E , Mk2 Cortina 1300 auto and various Escorts and Fiestas.
 
I had 2 Cortinas a 1600 and may favourite a 2.3 V 6.

My mates dad had a lotus Cortina l was so jealous.

My driving instructor's car was a Capri, I learned and took my test in that. My first car was a Mark II Cortina, my sister had a Mark II. A number of mates and Mark I and II Escorts, then later I had a Mark III estate as a company car.
 
I got cross with my dad for pronouncing it Kapp ree with the emphasis on the first syllable but that was how the island in the Med was pronounced. All my mates called it the Ka pree. Of course, he was correct and I was wrong.

Learnt to drive in a mini in 1973, then bought my first car ford Capri, frightening driving off garage forecourt, didn’t realise how long that bonnet was.
 
The Ford Capri was a missed opportunity in many respects by Ford. It was unfortunately always built down to a price! Most cars are of course, but Ford could have made some very cheap improvements that would have transformed it's weakest aspect.... handling. The problem was the rear axle was so badly tied down, it would just shift around all over the shop. You could literally shove a Capri sideways at rest and watch the wheels shimmy back and forth compared to the bodywork. The first thing anyone who prepared a race Capri did was tie down that axle with amazing results. A guy did start up a company selling a simple "X" shaped frame that bolted to the diff and the spring mounts for about £99, and it transformed the car. Ford should have done that from the start!
The front brakes were inadequate also, but many car's were.....
It was a very good looking car though! The earlier marques in particular.
 
I'm only halfway through the vid ,great to see all those Capris, I bought a manual 3ltr ghia mk3, , S reg when I was 19! back in the eighties, couldnt afford to run it and did a straight swap for a mk3 2ltr ghia which was just about ok, after a while I swapped that for a mk2 3.0 S, which on closer inspection was so shoddy I sold it on for a massive loss.
 
Mate of mine used to love them. Back in the late eighties, he went from a Lotus Capri, to a Tickford, then a 2.8i. I have fond memories of him pulling away from traffic lights at a T-junction in the wet, and promptly stuffing it into the window of Dorothy Perkins...
 
Ha..I remember a chap I used to work with in a supermarket many years ago carefully park his Escort through a mahoosive plate glass window of a furniture shop,between two sofas...after trying to show off...
 
I'm a mini man myself, but if I didn't have one I've love a Capri (or a beetle)
